Community outreach & Charity Initiatives

At Reed Optical, we believe strongly in giving back to the community and caring for the eyes of all those in need. Outreach programs represent an opportunity to show the community the level of commitment our optometrists have to their community. The staff also plays an important role in community outreach.

Charity Drives:

In 2019, we again hosted our book drive, this time incorporating both locations. We were able to donate 673 books to the Fiske Free Library in Claremont as well as 677 to the Abbott Library in Sunapee!

Our Book Drive in September of 2012 was a huge success thanks to our wonderful patients! We received over 1500 books to donate to the Fiske Free Library in Claremont! Each year we have continued to collect books, with 2200 in 2013 and 1750 in 2014. Now that's a lot of books!

For our annual charity drive, we chose to support Sullivan County Cares, a non-profit organization responsible for the collection of and shipment of care packages to military stationed overseas. With the help of our partner, Mount Royal Academy, we collected a large number of goods and some postage money!

In October 2010, we organized our Eye on Nutrition Food Drive, which allowed us to work with other merchants in the downtown area to hold a fun contest and collect food to benefit the Claremont Soup Kitchen.

Event Sponsorships:

Every year, we donate gift certificates and merchandise to many charitable organizations, including, but not limited to Kiwanis Club, Local Rotary clubs, Local Schools and PTA and the Claremont Fire Station.

In the Summer of 2019, our Claremont location hosted the Reach The Peak run held at Arrowhead. What a fun way to support healthy activity!

The Reed Optical 5K is a fun event we sponsored in both 2013 and 2014. Runners from around the area enjoyed this event hosted in conjunction with the Claremont Department of Parks and Recreation. It was a great way to start the Annual Chili Cook-off event! We followed suit in Sunapee with the sponsorship of the 2015 Turkey Trot, a highly attended holiday run.

In May 2012, we held our Second Annual Sight for Seniors Day. This year we were able to provide complimentary eye exams and eyewear to 25 participants! See our facebook page ( for photos! The previous year, we were able to see 13 patients through this program.

Volunteer Time:

Our staff and doctors are active in their communities, volunteering their time with various local organizations, such as Scouting Programs, Chamber of Commerce, School Groups, and Churches.
