Diabetic Eye Exams

Our comprehensive eye exam includes dilation, allowing us to view the retina for diabetic changes. Our digital retinal imaging is used to document the current status of your retina so we can compare it to future visits.
Dilation is recommended yearly for all diabetics without retinal complications, but may be recommened more frequently depending on your retinal status.  Do not wait until you start to have vision loss!  When found early, treatments are available, so regular eye exams are the key to keeping your vision.
Our office values interoffice communication, so we always send a report of your diabetic status to your primary care provider.

Diabetes causes several changes in the retina, including bleeding and swelling.  These changes can lead to permanent vision loss.  It is very important to work with your primary care provider to control your diabetes.  Check your blood sugar regularly and keep it in the range recommended by your physician.  And remember your yearly eye exams!
