Eye
Examinations
At Reed Optical, our doctors are licensed optometrists who can not only determine your prescription,
but also check the health of your eyes. Our comprehensive exams can detect near and far sightedness, eye turns, and focusing difficulties. We are able to diagnose and treat
many common complaints, including discomfort due to dry eye and ocular allergies;
-
Dry eye can cause a
gritty feeling in the eyes. It can be releived with prescription and
non-prescription methods
-
Allergies can also
contribute to dry eye, and can make the eyes feel itchy
-
Glaucoma is when the
eye pressure is too high, and can cause blindness if not monitored
regularly. It is often treated with eye drops.
-
Cataracts are when the
natural lenses get hazy.
Is your child having difficulties in school? Children have the ability to mask certain types of prescriptions by overusing their eye muscles. This can lead to eye fatigue, headaches, difficulty reading, and short attention spans. Even if your child has passed a "vision test" at school, a pair of glasses or vision training may enable them to perform at his/her best. If you notice these qualities, you may want to schedule an exam:
-
skipping lines, repeating words, or having to trace the words when reading
-
fidgeting, not paying attention in class
-
mixing up letters and numbers
Glasses can be used to
correct several visual complaints, including:
-
Myopia - This is
commonly known as near-sightedness, and is corrected using minus power
lenses
-
Hyperopia - This is
commonly known as far-sightedness, and is corrected using plus power
lenses
-
Astigmatism - This
condition causes distorted vision because the front of the eye (cornea) is not
perfectly round. It is corrected using toric lenses.
-
Presbyopia - This
condition is caused as the eyes lose the ability to focus on close
objects. It begins in the low forties, and affects virtually everyone
above 60 years old.
Interested in LASIK? We offer pre-screening appointments for several local surgeons, and can help you set up an appointment for vision enhancement. Continuing care is necessary after vision enhancement to ensure that the eyes remain healthy. We offer this service, and can communicate your results to your surgeon. It is recommended that these evaluations be done several times after surgery, including 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after your surgery.
